Selecting a career option is not easy for most people. This is not because they lack focus. They may be unsure of their own talents or have more than one interest. This can make it difficult to effectively come to a decision about the one thing that they will stay interested in over a long period of time. A career test can make things a lot easier in such a situation. There are numerous types of personality assessments. However, a career test focuses on categorizing answers to a series of questions. Issues like whether the temperament of the examinee is that of an introvert or an extrovert, if the person or emotional or intellectual, critical or perceptive, and the values of the person are easily uncovered through such a test.
In a career test the choices are not right or wrong; it is just a matter of degree. As the questions describe personality traits in the form of statements, the examinee marks the most appropriate choice from a gradation that could have options like somewhat true, extremely true, neutral or not applicable. Usually these tests are short and can be completed quickly. Generally such a test may take only about ten minutes to fill up. There are a number of free to use career tests for livelihood found online but they would be just a part of the complete test. A career test per se is extensive and has to be taken through a professional assessor by paying a small fee. Such an assessor will tally the answers, study the results and come up with a career map.
It is easy to see from the results the areas that the examinee is strong in and those he or she may need further development. For example, if the person is an extrovert and makes decisions based on feelings, then a career of working in job that requires interaction with people is an excellent choice. On the other hand, research work or scientist is a good career choice for a person who is an introvert and an intellectual. When the results of a career test for livelihood are combined with the skills and abilities of the person, making a career choice becomes easy.
A long lasting career can result only when a person is happy with the work. And that in turn happens when skills and abilities are put to best use. Sometimes people go in for a career test even when they have been working for some time, since they may have started a career for reasons like advice of other people or glamour and so on. Eventually, they realize that the present career is not suiting their ability. Such people also benefit from career tests for livelihood.

College and Career sound like a long way off for the average high school freshman. But the truth is that high school freshmen need to start thinking about their college and career choice within the next year and a half. The old saying that you are in control of your destiny is very true. But in most cases a student’s destiny is on its way to fulfillment by their junior year. That is why it is so important to follow a few simple rules for your education in high school and to start your search for a college and a career early.
One tip to make your entrance into college more successful is to keep your grades up. Not only do you want to have the best grades you can from high school to college, you also want to carry good grades in college. These same good grades in college will be looked at by your future employer as well as perhaps graduate schools. Another wise tip is to visit your career center at your high school often. This is the place to help you identify your interests, evaluate your skills, assess your values and personal characteristics. Most young students do not go into college hunting with a clear defined goal for their college years or for their future career.
Whether you are a high school or college student actively looking at career and job fairs is a great way to get ideas for yourself on what line of study and eventual career path you might be interested in or would like to change to. Most high school and few college students really look at what they want to be doing with their lives past the moment. But it will be well worth your time in the future to visit those career fairs and expos and to talk to experts or employees in a possible field of study for that future career or dream job.
When having to fill out a resume or job application many employers and grad schools like to see some kind of involvement in a sponsored activity or club from the campus. Just joining usually doesn’t cut it today. Grad schools and employers look for involvement such as leadership skills or your ability to work with a team. Both these skills are highly rated as well as being involved in some kind of community service.
You must have computer skills to survive college and your future career. Computers are the way of schools and businesses. There is hardly any college student today that does not own a laptop computer. Many classroom instructions are delivered via the internet as well as some actual classes are given via the internet only. There is no substitution today for good verbal and written skills. Many colleges require freshman to take writing courses to improve their skills. This is a definitively a skill any future employer or graduate school will be looking at, particularly in your resume’s cover letter or personal statement. If you explore all your options early it will remove a lot of stress in the future.

The results of the test are conclusive not only within the subjective parameters provided by the user, but are also a part of a larger picture that takes into analysis national and regional data.
A career development test can be conducted online. It takes around half an hour to complete, and it is relevant depending on the country for which it was designed. Go for companies with a reputation for being smart. Avoid amateurish tests that are promoted as the right solution for career assessment because they have a low relevance level for your future. It is recommended that you check the source of the data which is taken as a standard for the general background of the results. Thus, the info on the salary and job growth should be provided by the Bureau of Labor Statistics and Employment in your country, as they are the authority to provide the most accurate details on worker attributes and job peculiarities.
Moreover, keep in mind that the results of the career development test are for your information only. They orient you in the direction of a certain course of action. You still have the freedom to decide whether you want to follow through or not.
Most people who have taken career development tests have declared themselves more than satisfied and even surprised at the number of possibilities that opened up to them. Avoiding career mistakes and maximizing returns is the advantage of going for such a personalized test.
